Jackson, Miss - Soccer season is back as the 2017 men's team is set to gear up for a season opener this Friday against Centenary College. The game will be played on a neutral site at Millsaps College with a start time set for 5 pm. The two teams will go head to head to open the season for the second year in a row after Centenary took the game 2-1 to open the 2016 season. The 2016 Blazers finished their season with a record of 8-7-1 while riding a four game winning streak to close out the season. This years team, which returns many of last years starters, will look to carry that momentum into this season opener against Centenary.
With a talented roster returning, the 2017 Blazers will look to senior midfielder/forward
Somto Ngwudike and junior midfielder
John Dunbar to lead the way. Ngwudike and Dunbar were both recently named to the 2017 ASC soccer watch list. The Blazers also return sophomore
Kobe Van Someren, who led the team with four goals on 14 shots.
The Blazers, are coached by
Carl Griffiths, who enters his fourth season as the Blazers, head coach. Griffiths carries an overall record of 33-17-3 and will look to guide his team to another successful season.
