LONGVIEW, Texas - The Belhaven baseball team wraps up the 2017 regular season this weekend on the road with a three-game, American Southwest Conference (ASC) series with LeTourneau.
The three-game series, originally scheduled for a single game on Friday and doubleheader on Saturday, has been swapped due to impending weather in the area. The series opener will now be on Friday with a 4 p.m. doubleheader, and the finale is slated for a 1 p.m. first pitch Saturday.
Belhaven earned a 10-3 win on Tuesday at Tougaloo to wrap up their non-conference schedule, and now 5-8 on the road, the Blazers will look to even their road record.
Terrell Hodges went 4-for-6 in the contest with the Bulldogs, missing a triple for the cycle. In the seventh, he smashed his ninth home run of the season to push the game out of reach.
BU (23-14, 11-10) will look to improve their marks in conference play. After losing five of their last six conference matchups, the Green and Gold bounced back to taking a three-game series sweep against the Ozarks.
As a team, they are hitting .268, led by
Daniel Ammirati with a .370 batting average with seven doubles and 12 RBI.
Kreg Garner has two homers and nine RBI with a .326 batting average.
On the mound,
Tanner Cable, who has a 2.00 ERA in 2017, has an ERA under two in conference play. In seven starts against the ASC, the Southaven, Miss. native is 3-2 with a 1.75 ERA. He has tossed 8.1 scoreless consecutive innings, including six shutout innings against the Ozarks last week, striking out eight.
In 46.1 innings, the senior has struck out 54, and has allowed hitters to a. 207 batting average.
Landon Boyd threw seven shutout innings in the series finale versus the Eagles, and has an ERA of 2.57 in six appearances against ASC foes.
LeTourneau (9-23, 1-17) has a team batting average of .243, led by Gonazlo Sosa, with two home runs and 17 RBI.
The YellowJackets' run producer is Kyle Jacobs, leading the team with 28 runs scored with a .280 batting average.
On the mound, Andrew Harlan leads the team in the ERA category with a 4.19, and he also leads the team in innings pitched with 62.1. In 10 starts, he has completed two games and is 2-5 on the year.
In two non-conference starts, Harlan tossed a win against Austin College and the University of Dallas. Against the Roos, he allowed three hits and two unearned runs in seven innings. In his win versus the Crusaders, he fired eight innings, allowed seven hits on three earned runs with no walks and tying a season high with seven punchouts.
