JACKSON, Miss. - After a 1-1 weekend on the road at UT Tyler and LeTourneau, the Belhaven women's basketball team is set to return home for the final time in the 2016-17 regular season, as the Green and Gold take on East Texas Baptist and Louisiana College inside Rugg Arena.
Six Belhaven seniors -
Samara Dingiswayo,
Ieshia Dixon,
Candler Gregory,
Maleah Isaac,
Sierra Pittman and
Vamikka Smith - will be honored prior to the start of the men's game against Louisiana College on Saturday afternoon.
Dingiswayo has been a primary threat for the Green and Gold both on the offensive and defensive side of the ball. The Oakland, Calif. native is averaging 10.1 points per game this season with BU, while shooting 32.7 percent from downtown. On the defensive side of the ball, she has blocked 32 shots and rebounded on 144 possessions. She is majoring in Sports Administration.
Dixon has played in 46 career games while averaging 4.7 points per game off the bench for BU. The Utica, Miss. native finished shooting 34 percent from the field with an average of 6.8 points per game her junior year. She will earn her degree in Computer Science.
Gregory is one of two Blazers who have been with the Women's Basketball program all four seasons. The Hampton, Ga. native is a career 30 percent shooter from the field, 29 percent from downtown and 73 percent from the charity stripe. A member of the NCCAA Scholar-Athlete, ASC All-Academic and SSAC All-Academic Teams, Gregory is 43 points away from hitting the 1,000-point mark, averaging 8.7 points per game in 110 career games with BU. She will finish Belhaven majoring in Chemistry with a Biology minor.
Isaac totaled 87 points in 270 career minutes with the Blazers. Being a key player off the bench, the Carthage, Miss. native totaled 68 boards and shot 37.5 percent from the field. She plans to earn her degree in Elementary Education.
Pittman is the other senior who has been with the program all four years. Shooting 46 percent from the field in 2016-17, the Mobile, Ala. native is shooting 41 percent from the field in 109 career games. Starting 78 games for the Green and Gold, the Faith Academy product has totaled 222 assists, 144 steals and 915 points. She is majoring in Mathematics with a Sports Administration minor.
Smith has been a big part of the Blazers rebounding game. This season, she is averaging 8.6 boards per game, good for fifth in the ASC and 16th in the NCCAA. Averaging 8.1 rebounds and 6.6 points per game in 34 career games, the Mobile, Ala. native posted 36 blocks in 2016-17, good for an average of 1.6 per game, which is fourth in the ASC and seventh in the NCCAA. She is graduating with a degree in Psychology from Belhaven.
Belhaven, now at 12-11 on the season, fell on the road Thursday evening to UT Tyler, 84-49, before rallying to defeat LeTourneau, 84-78 in Longview Saturday afternoon.

A young team with 14 underclassmen, 11 of those freshmen out of the 18 on the roster, ETBU in 2016-17 have taken their lumps with a 3-21 record and a 1-15 mark in the ASC. Two of their three victories have been away from ETBU: a neutral site victory on Dec. 30 vs. Schreiner and on the road at the Ozarks on Jan. 21.
One of those 11 freshmen, Hannah Holt, is seventh in the ASC in scoring, averaging 14.8 per game in her freshman campaign. She is also eighth in assists (3.0) and third in free throw percentage (79.2; 99-for-125).
Belhaven took down ETBU in Marshall on Jan. 14, 67-54. Dingiswayo tallied 22 points and collected eight boards in the win.

The Wildcats (8-14, 7-9) will have to see what happens with the Ozarks this weekend to see their fate in the 2017 ASC Women's Basketball Tournament. If Ozarks loses to either UT Tyler or LeTourneau this weekend, LC will clinch the 4-seed in the ASC East.
The Wildcats rank fifth in the league in scoring (70.2) and are averaging 43.3 boards per game, good for third in the conference.
Brooke Jones is the leading scorer for the Wildcats, averaging 12.3 per game, while also corralling 6.8 boards per game.
The Blazers, on Jan. 12, defeated the Wildcats, 67-58. Pittman led all scorers with 20 points, 12 coming from the charity stripe, while Gregory drained four 3-pointers to finish with 15 points.
