Blizzard Selected to Participate in NFL-NCAA Coaches Academy

JACKSON, Miss. - Belhaven University Offensive Coordinator and Wide Receivers Coach Bobby Blizzard has been invited to participate in the 2017 NFL-NCAA Coaches Academy.

The NFL-NCAA Coaches Academy takes place in Tampa, Fla. on Feb. 10-12, and provides current, full-time college football coaches at NCAA member schools, some former NFL athletes, the opportunity to expand their knowledge and insight into the world of college football coaching.

During the three-day academy, the NCAA leadership development staff and the National Football League Player Engagement are able to educate and train selected participants in a variety of areas that encourage effective coaching and improve student-athlete well being at both the college and professional levels. Topical education and conversation during the academy includes: effective communication with campus and community constituents; the importance of building culture focused on the overall success of the student-athletes both on and off the field; budget management of a football program; coaching strategies and philosophies.

Keynote speakers have included Ohio State head coach Urban Meyer, Alabama Nick Saban, legendary NFL coaches Dan Reeves and Tony Dungy, NFL Hall of Famer Mike Singletary, and Tyrone Willingham, former head coach at Notre Dame, Stanford and the University of Washington.

"Bobby Blizzard is one of the brightest stars rising on the college football scene," said Belhaven head coach Hal Mumme. "He played in the SEC and the ACC as well as the NFL and NFL Europe. He has spent five seasons coaching the Air Raid offense and is ready for a big step in the profession. The NFL clinic should be a great event for him."

The Blazers Air Raid offense ranked second in the American Southwest Conference this season in yards per game (499.0) and led the conference in passing yards per game (421.4). Four Belhaven wide receivers - LaMiquell Roberts, Darien Thomas, Jaquay Daniels and Nate Williams - ranked in the top 10 in the conference in receiving yards per game and receptions per game under the direction of Coach Blizzard.

The 2016 season was the third for Blizzard as a member of the Belhaven coaching staff. As a player, Blizzard competed as a tight end for Coach Mumme at the University of Kentucky for two seasons before finishing his collegiate career at the University of North Carolina. He then went on to play in the NFL for the Pittsburgh Steelers, Arizona Cardinals, Baltimore Ravens, and Cincinnati Bengals.
