MONTGOMERY, Ala. – The Southern States Athletic Conference office released the bracket for the 2015 Conference Tournament on Sunday afternoon, with the top eight teams qualifying. The Blazers earned the final spot and will take on top-seeded Auburn-Montgomery on Wednesday, April 29th at 7:00 pm from Paterson Field in Montgomery.
AUM snaps a three-year streak of the Faulkner Eagles winning the SSAC regular season, bringing an overall record of 36-16 into the tournament. The Warhawks needed only one win in their final conference series to earn the top spot and clinch a 25-5 league record.
The Warhawks swept the Blazers in a three-game series earlier this season at Smith-Wills Stadium. Under the direction of first-year head coach Marty Lovrich, Auburn-Montgomery tallied 31 hits and 22 runs during that span.
Tremayne Hardin's team-high .350 batting average and 37 stolen bases makes him a dangerous threat atop the order, while Darius Reese's 13 doubles and Matt Miller's 38 RBI make AUM an offensive threat. Miller and Cole Goodwin are arguably the team's best two starting pitchers, combing for a 16-4 record and 130 strikeouts through 169 innings.
For Belhaven, who carries a 33-22 overall record and a 22-14 SSAC mark, first baseman
Trey Eschberger leads the team with a .371 stroke.
Adam Kowalczyk has been the Blazers' primary threat, hitting 12 doubles and 12 home runs while driving in 59 runs.
Senior
Ben Allison has been the team's premiere starter all season, tossing 79.2 innings and fanning 50 batters along the way.
Stephen Solomon came on late in the season but currently leads the Blazers in earned run average at 1.17, while
Tanner Moulder proves to be an integral part, as well.
