"It's difficult to sweep anybody, so it's big for us to be able to do that," Head Coach Hill Denson said. "We had some big hits at the right times tonight, and we're really getting to see who our players are."

Junior Chris Good received the starting nod on the mound in game one of the doubleheader, earning his second consecutive win to open the season. The 2013 NAIA All-American gave up two runs in the first inning but went on to post an impressive stat line that included a complete game, nine hits, two earned runs, and four strikeouts.

"Chris got off to a shaky start and got behind early, but it was a well-pitched game on both sides" Denson said. "We were able to get back in the ballgame, and it proved to be the difference."

The Blazer offense was led by second baseman Paul Pickerell, who went 3-4 at the plate, scored two runs and swiped a bag. Third baseman Gabe Wilson added two RBI, while outfielder James Peterson posted a multi-hit ballgame of his own. Four other Blazers contributed base hits, providing Good the run support he needed to record a win.

Culver-Stockton southpaw Craig Bastert entered the weekend with a 1.90 ERA and a 1-0 record, but Belhaven roughed him for eight hits and six runs. Bastert walked four and struck out three in his first loss of 2014. Shortstop Brock Kartheiser and left fielder Cody Jacobson led the Wildcats offense with two hits and an RBI each in game one. DH Cyrus Wimberly collected two hits and score two of the three runs.

Belhaven gave the ball to right hander Ben Allison for the final game of the series, and the junior tossed five innings while allowing one run on five hits. He recorded two strikeouts before turning the game over to the Blazer bullpen.

"Ben has three or four pitches he can throw for strikes all the time," Denson said. "He isn't going to strike a lot of guys out, but we played good defense behind him and were able to get the victory."

Jeff Baude started his first game of the year for the Wildcats, lasting just three innings against Belhaven's bats. Baude allowed four runs on five hits, though only two of those were earned.

Andrew Gunn, Justin Atkinson, Josh Rogers, and Richard Richardson each hurled a scoreless inning for the Blazers en route to the squad's sixth consecutive victory. Speedy leadoff man Dominick Francia powered the lineup with a 3-5 effort, including a pair of doubles. Reagan Rutledge, Wilson, Walt McCullough, Pickerrell and Hunter Sutton added an RBI apiece, and the Blazers cruised to a 7-1 victory.

In game two for the Wildcats, second baseman Trent Brisboe picked up one of the teams six hits and scored the only run. Centerfielder Nate Olin was credited with the only run batted in.

The Blazers return to action on Tuesday at Millsaps College in the first Cowboy Maloney Series game of the season. First pitch is slated for 4:00 PM from Twenty Field.
