"Both teams struggled a little bit with the bats tonight, but Boomer Scarborough did a great job on the mound for us and we hung on for the win," Belhaven Head Coach Hill Denson said. "Boomer had his good stuff tonight and worked in and out of a couple of jams before the bullpen closed it out for us."

Belhaven (14-3, 3-1 SSAC) trailed 1-0 after four frames before scoring twice in the top of the fifth. Mobile (11-7, 3-4 SSAC) got on the board in the bottom of the fourth without the aid of a hit when catcher Angelo Bruno was hit by a pitch from Blazer starter Boomer Scarborough to open the frame. Courtesy runner Austin Curtis would eventually score on a wild pitch to make it a 1-0 contest.

The Blazers manufactured what would prove to be the game winning runs in the top of the fifth. Centerfielder Reagan Rutledge and right fielder Emilio DeSilva both drew walks from pitcher Jeff Price to open the frame. Second baseman Paul Pickerrell legged out a bunt single to load the bases and first baseman Tyler Akins lifted a sacrifice fly to left, chasing home Rutledge to knot the game at 1-1.

With DH Brayden Dykes at the plate, Pickerrell and DeSilva pulled off a double steal, setting runners on second and third. Dykes plated DeSilva on groundout to first base to make it a 2-1 game. Scarborough and the Belhaven bullpen made it stand up the rest of the way.

Scarborough (2-2) pitched six innings on the mound and earned the victory Friday night. The senior right hander allowed just one run on three hits with four walks and five strikeouts. Austin McCann and Josh Rogers each worked a scoreless inning before giving way to Akins in the ninth. Akins did not allow a run or a hit en route to his fifth save of 2014.

Belhaven's offense was limited to six hits with the total divided by two among three players. DeSilva and Pickerrell each had a pair of singles while left fielder Dominick Francia recorded a base hit and a triple. As a team, Belhaven stole five bases with Pickerrell, DeSilva, Francia, and Rutledge adding one apiece to their season totals.

Price (3-1) lost for the first time on the hill Friday night, allowing two runs on six hits with five walks and six strikeouts. Third baseman Dakota Spikes, right fielder Tayler Hardy, and Bruno had the only hits for Mobile.

The Blazers and Rams will wrap up their three game series on Saturday with a doubleheader starting at 1:00 PM.
