"It was our first ballgame and at times it showed tonight with the way we played," said Belhaven Head Coach Hill Denson. "A positive from tonight was some of the younger guys getting playing time and getting their feet wet at the collegiate level and that will help down the road. LSU-Alexandria played a great ballgame and well get back to work and get ready for tomorrow. "

LSU-Alexandria (1-0) struck for four of their six runs in the top of the fifth after the two teams battled to a scoreless tie through the first four frames. The Generals collected four hits in the inning including RBI singles by second baseman Bond Babin and DH Winn Smith. The other two tallies crossed the plate on a fielder's choice and wild pitch.

Belhaven (0-1) answered back in the home half of the fifth on an RBI base hit by freshman third baseman Dan Ammirati. Left fielder Dominick Francia scored the run following his one out double that put him in scoring position. Unfortunately, that would prove to be the only run of the night for the Blazers. The Generals tacked on solo runs in the sixth and seventh and held the Belhaven bats in check the rest of the night for the win.

Ammirati guided the Blazers at the plate going 1 for 3 with one run batted in. Catcher Hunter Sutton, Francia, and Rutledge had the others while Rutledge picked up his first stolen base of the 2014 season. Boomer Scarborough started the game on the mound and tossed five innings, allowing four runs on seven hits with four strikeouts. He suffered the loss dropping his record to 0-1.

Right fielder Dylan Edmiston went 3 for 5 at the plate with an RBI for LSUA. Pitcher Kirk Savoy started on the hill and went six innings for his first win of the season. Savoy allowed just one run on four hits with a walk and eight strikeouts.

Belhaven will wrap up the three game series on Saturday with a doubleheader starting at 1:00 PM.
