Box Score MOUNT VERNON, Ga.- The Belhaven men's soccer team wrapped up a two game Southern States Athletic Conference road trip on Saturday with a resounding 8-1 win at Brewton-Parker. The Blazers, ranked 4th in the latest NAIA Top 25 Coaches' Poll, extended their winning streak to seven and remain unbeaten in conference play.
"It was a very successful weekend for us to get a pair of conference victories," Belhaven Head Coach Brian McMahon said. "Earning six points on the road in our league is very tough to do."
Gary Fournier and
Jermaine Metz highlighted Belhaven's offensive attack Saturday with two goals apiece. Fournier broke the ice in the 6th minute with his first goal of the season, which will also go in the books as the game winner. Fournier would add goal number two of the afternoon in the 50th minute off an assist from
Edison Sanchez.
Meanwhile, Metz slammed his third goal of the season and first of the match into the back of the net in the 31st minute of play.
David Major provided a helping hand with the assist. Metz would score again in the 73rd minute when
Victor France guided a pass to Metz for Belhaven's seventh goal of the contest.
Not to be outdone,
Eduardo Cruz,
Bruno Pietrobelli,
Victor Lawrence, and
Felipe Ferreira all found the stat sheet with goals of their own. Pietrobelli also earned an assist on the Lawrence score.
Brewton-Parkers only goal of the day was produced by David Preciado in the 69th minute.
Camilo Solarte made his first start in goal this season for the Blazers and in the process picked up his first win. He made two saves and allowed just one goal. James Rumbaugh was the starting goalie for Brewton Parker (3-7-0, 0-4-0 SSAC) and allowed five goals with two saves. Rumbaugh was charged with the loss in net.
The Blazers had a commanding 20-6 edge in total shots and owned a 4-0 advantage in corner kicks.
Belhaven returns home on Wednesday to face Spring Hill College in an SSAC contest at H.T. Newell Field. The kickoff is slated for 7:30 PM.
