Box Score PINEVILLE, La. – The Belhaven men's soccer team improved to 4-2-1 on the season after a 6-1 victory at Louisiana College on Saturday night. The Blazers, ranked 10th the latest NAIA Top 25 Coaches' Poll, have now scored six goals in each of the last two games. Belhaven looks to the carry the momentum from their three game winning streak forward into Southern States Athletic Conference play.
"This was an important game for us going on the road against a hard working Louisiana College team," Head Coach Brian McMahon said. "It was a fantastic challenge, and I thought we did a good job of handling their high pressure."
Six different Blazers tallied goals, but junior
Vijay Brahmbhatt began the trend in the 18th minute with his first goal of the season. Twenty minutes later,
Tom Gavin found the back of the net on a penalty kick for his second goal in as many games. Belhaven went to the half up 2-0, where Louisiana College swapped goalies. The move proved to be ineffective against the reigning National Champions, as goals became a frequent occurrence in the second half.
Sophomore
Cillian Thompson snuck a ball past Wildcat keeper Cameron Vauclin for his first goal of the year, before
Will Monsour scored his team-leading fourth.
Eduardo Cruz and
Victor France also chimed in goals for Belhaven, and goalie
Carl Blundell added three saves to his 2013 season totals.
Belhaven outshot their hosts 33-11, while winning the corner kick battle 14-1. Renato Neves, Phillip Borde, Rodrigo Neves, and Greg McDoom took two shots apiece for the Wildcats. Pedro Silva assisted on the lone goal of the night, Rodrigo Neves' second of the year.
The Blazers open Southern States Athletic Conference action next Friday when they take on Emmanuel College. The match is set to begin at 7:30 pm in "The Bowl".
