Box Score
MONTGOMERY, Ala. – The Belhaven baseball team suffered a 10-0 loss in game three of their Southern States Athletic Conference series at ninth ranked Faulkner University on Saturday afternoon. The Eagles completed the series sweep after defeating the Blazers on Friday 7-2 and 10-0 in a doubleheader that opened the series.
Faulkner (12-1, 3-0 SSAC) jumped on the board in the second inning when DH Michael Cruz blasted his second home run of the series. The two run shot put Faulkner up and as it turned those were all the runs they would need.
Faulkner continued to add runs in the third, scoring three more times to make it a 5-0 lead. Right fielder David Bishop drove in the first run on a sacrifice fly to left, followed by an RBI double off the bat of second baseman Luis Sanchez. Left fielder Esteban Paula powered in the third run on an RBI base hit.
The Eagles worked their way into a 10-0 lead thanks to two runs in the fourth, one in the fifth, and two in the sixth. Bishop picked up his second and third RBI's on a single in the fourth, shortstop Darius Holguin homered in the fifth, and an RBI single by first baseman Ethan Williams followed by a sacrifice fly from Jacob Oster accounted for both runs in the sixth.
The Blazers failed to score in the seventh putting the 10 run rule into effect. Belhaven didn't have many scoring opportunities on Saturday or in the series. The Blazers put a runner on second in the third, fifth, sixth, and seventh innings, but couldn't come up with a hit to drive in a run.
David Hill started the game on the mound for Belhaven and was charged with the loss, dropping his record to 1-3. Hill gave up five runs on five hits in 2.2 innings.
Robert Marzoni was charged with the other five runs on five hits in 2.2 frames.
