"We weren't in it from the very beginning, and we got beat in every phase of the game," Head Coach Rusty Cram said. "This was our most disappointing performance of the year."
Belhaven's offensive attack was led by freshman
Ariel Wilson with 12 points, while senior
Erika LeFlore followed with 11. Wiley countered with three players in double figures, led by Kyniddia Purdy's game high 16 points. Danisha Shaw and Bianca Davis added 13 and 12 respectively.
The Wildcats won the battle on the glass, outrebounding their hosts 61-44, highlighted by Kirbi Clark's 12. Belhaven's LeFlore led the team with 10 while finishing with her fourth double-double of her senior campaign.
Wiley connected on 18 of their 27 free throws, while also shooting 43% from the floor for the game. Belhaven will undoubtedly look to improve on their 13-26 from the line and their 21% from the field. The Wildcats entered the evening with two of the NAIA's top five individuals in steals, but the Blazers matched them in that category on Wednesday.
The Blazers return to action on Friday night with a Southern States Athletic Conference matchup against Auburn University of Montgomery. Tipoff is slated for 5:30 pm from Rugg Arena.
"We have to get this out of our minds and refocus on games that matter," Cram said. "AUM is good at what they do, and we will have to be better mentally on Friday."
