Freshman
Ariel Wilson continued to heat up the stat sheets with her team high of 17 points and an additional five rebounds. Although she played limited minutes, she was able to impose her will on the Bulldog defense.
"She's been making us go, and people are continuing to get in her face, "said Belhaven Head Coach Rusty Cram. "She was able to be productive with her limited minutes. She is coming along well as she's been averaging double figures for us."
Senior
Erika LeFlore also continued her domination and leadership with her 14 points and 12 rebounds. LeFlore is has maintained a double-double average on the season.
"Erika Leflore has to score for us and she has delivered double-doubles in all but one of her games this season. This production is what you expect out of a senior. She's been providing that leadership that we've needed this year," added Cram.
Belhaven's freshman guards
Candler Gregory and
Brittany Gardner made their presence felt as they added a total of 14 points and 10 rebounds.
"I'm proud of these two freshmen as they stepped up and gave us a solid effort tonight," said Cram.
The Blazers were able to shut down Tougaloo's speedy guards, who dominated Division I opponent Jackson State University last week. The Bulldogs were held to 25% from the field and 20% from the three-point arc.
The first half was played in full speed, but the Blazers were still able to control the tempo of the game. Belhaven shot 40% from the field, but struggled from three point range shooting only 30%. The Blazers went into the half with the 38-34 lead.
"I like the way we played tonight," said Cram. "We played well in certain spots, but we definitely have areas we can improve in".
The Blazers were able to pull away in the second half due in part by their 24 points in the paint and 13 second chance points. The Blazers were able to stifle Tougaloo's approach, holding the Bulldogs to only 28% shooting from the field.
"We will get back to practice tomorrow and look to improve our game as we move into our first Conference game," said Cram.
Belhaven will travel to Brewton-Parker College on Friday night for a 5:30 PM SSAC showdown with the Barons.
