JACKSON, Tenn. – The Belhaven Women's Soccer team fell to Union University 1-0 in their first road test of the young season Friday night. The Blazers were unable to rebound from an early goal by Union despite a few opportunities to knot up the game in the second half.
Union struck in the 12th minute on a goal by senior forward Stefanie King off a pass from Whitney Kramer and kept the pressure on the Blazers' defense for much of the game thereafter. Belhaven goalkeeper Nicole Walsh had a strong day for the Blazers in the loss, collecting five saves after giving up her first goal of the season.
The Blazers were unable to get much going on offense and were out shot in the second half 9-4. Freshman Laura Quintero and junior Jordan Organ had the best chances to tie the score in the second half but the shots were gathered by Union keeper Emily Waggoner. Waggoner had four saves on the day to preserve the shutout for the Bulldogs.
The Blazers will look to rebound Saturday afternoon when they take on Milligan College at a neutral site. Kick-off is set for 1 p.m. and you can follow along with live stats by clicking here.
