MONTGOMERY, Ala.-The Belhaven baseball team lost game one of a three game Southern States Athletic Conference series at Faulkner University 8-1 Friday night. The Blazers, ranked 15th in the Preseason NAIA Top 25 Poll, had their five game winning streak snapped with the loss.
Belhaven's only run of the game crossed the plate in the first inning when center fielder
Tyler Wrinkle scored on an RBI ground out by left fielder
Anthony Doss. Wrinkle walked to begin the inning and right fielder
Tom Wertz followed with an infield single. Third baseman Zak Colby's errant throw trying to get Wertz went wide of first allowing Wrinkle to go to third and Wertz to second.
It was all Faulkner the rest of the way as the Eagles scored at least one run in each of the first four innings to take control of the game. Faulkner tied the game at 1-1 in the bottom of the first on an RBI single by Brennan Olive. David Bishop launched the first of four home runs over the wall in left in the second inning followed by a Colby solo home run in the third. The Eagles scored three times in the fourth on a two run blast by Daniel Cayton and an RBI groundout by Brook Boudreaux. Faulkner capped the night in the sixth when Cayton hit his second two run home run of the game.

Anthony Doss had one hit and the only run batted in of the night. Shortstop
Ryne Cook and DH Jaime Bruno were each responsible for the other Blazer hits in Friday's game.
Geoffrey Thomas started and pitched four innings allowing six runs on seven hits with a walk and five strikeouts. The loss drops his record to 2-3 this season.
Ryan Kassab logged the other four innings surrendering two runs on six hits with a walk and four strikeouts.
Faulkner (24-8, 11-2 SSAC) smashed four home runs as a team and shortstop Daniel Cayton had two of them, each time there was a runner on base. Cayton finished the night 2 for 4 with four runs batted in. Right fielder David Bishop had two hits and a home run while second baseman Zac Colby had the other Eagles long ball in the game. Center fielder Brook Boudreaux and left fielder Tucker Willard chipped in with two hits each. Black earned the win on the hill as he goes to 5-1 in 2012. Black pitched seven innings allowing only one unearned run on four hits. He walked four and struck out six.
