MONTGOMERY, Ala.-The Belhaven women's soccer team ran into a roadblock at 23rd ranked Auburn University-Montgomery Wednesday afternoon, falling to the Warhawks 5-0 in Southern States Athletic Conference play. The Blazers were shutdown on offense by a smothering AUM defense that gave up only four shots on the afternoon. The Warhawks blasted 23 shots when they controlled the ball.
Auburn-Montgomery (10-4-2, 5-4-1 SSAC) cracked the scoreboard with two goals in the first half starting with an Alexandria Sveindottir shot that found the back of the net in the 16th minute. Nicole Walsh and had a wide open net in front of her.
The Warhawks added to their 1-0 advantage in the 39th minute when Maria Ros Arngrimsdottir headed the ball over Walsh who was charging out to challenge the shot. Unfortunately, she didn't get there in time and AUM took a 2-0 edge into halftime.
Despite a rough first half, Belhaven (6-11, 4-6 SSAC) stayed in striking distance down by just two goals. However, that all changed in the 62nd minute when the Warkhawks scored the first of three goals that would occur over the next six minutes of the match.
