Box Score
Columbus, GA-The Belhaven baseball team lost to Brewton-Parker College 12-5 Tuesday afternoon and suffered their first defeat in the Southern States Athletic Conference Tournament. The Blazers, ranked 21st in the latest NAIA Top 25 Poll, fell behind 5-0 after the first two innings and could not recover as the Barons pulled away for the win. Belhaven will now play on Wednesday at 12:00 PM for the SSAC Tournament Championship.

Belhaven (42-16) left the bases loaded in the first inning and Brewton-Parker (35-15) used that momentum to put four runs on the board to grab the early lead. The Barons tacked on another run in the second before the Blazers responded with three runs in the fifth. Belhaven loaded up the bases with two outs and Derek Tortorich delivered a three run double to the gap in right center to cut the deficit to 5-3.

However, Brewton-Parker countered with three runs of their own in the fifth to regain control of the game at 8-3. In the sixth, they sent home two more runs and boosted the lead to seven at 10-3. Belhaven made one last comeback attempt when Jimmy Gilford ripped a one out triple to center in the seventh followed by an RBI ground out by Lake Eiland. With two outs in the frame, Anthony Doss tripled to right and scored on a Tortorich RBI single resulting in his fourth run batted in of the contest. Each time the Blazers scored, the Barons had an answer and in the eighth scored a pair of insurance runs to make it a 12-5 game.

Tortorich was a bright spot on offense for Belhaven going 2 for 3 at the plate with four runs batted in. One of Tortorich's two hits was his 16th double of the year and has nine RBI's which leads the tournament so far. Doss and Gilford each collected three hits in the game with Gilford earning his sixth triple and Doss his third three bagger of the season. Eiland had the other RBI in the game and went 1 for 4 on the day with a run scored.
