Montgomery, AL-The Belhaven baseball team dropped a 5-2 Southern States Athletic Conference West Division matchup Friday night at Auburn University-Montgomery. The Blazers, ranked 12th in the NAIA Preseason Top 25 Poll, were held to five hits and struggled in the field committing four errors.
Belhaven (23-9, 4-3 SSAC) fell behind 3-0 after two innings as Auburn-Montgomery (24-13, 6-1 SSAC) scored two runs in the first and one in the second. Hunter Cross drove in the first run on an infield single to second base and then Brian Wheeler chased home the second run on another infield single. In the second, Logan Remson singled to left plating Chad Mansmann who had reached on an error to make it a 3-0 game.
In the top of the third, Belhaven was able to cut the deficit to 3-2 as
Tyler Wrinkle ripped a double off the fence in left scoring
Alex Riser and
Justin Hill on the play. However, Belhaven would get no closer as AUM added a run in the bottom of the third on a Sam Judah homerun and one more in the fifth thanks to a Michael Dugan sacrifice fly to pull away for the win.
Allen Johnson took the loss for the Blazers as he started and went five innings allowing five runs on 10 hits with three strikeouts. Four of the runs ended up being earned dropping his record to 2-3 this season. Wrinkle went 1 for 4 with a double and two runs batted in.

Kyle Mitchell tossed 7.1 innings for the Senators allowing just two runs on four hits to earn the win and run his record to 5-1. Sam Judah got the save and went 4 for 5 at the plate with an RBI and two runs scored. Wheeler had a 3 for 5 night with an RBI followed by Remson and Cross who each had two hits and an RBI each.
