JACKSON, Miss.-The Belhaven women's basketball team suffered its second consecutive loss to sixth ranked Freed-Hardeman University 65-56 at the Tougaloo College Classic Friday night. The Blazers, ranked 25th in the NAIA Preseason Coaches' Top 25 Poll, fall to 7-2 on the season with the setback.
Both offenses's had a sluggish first half with each team failing to score 30 points. Belhaven went 8 for 27 from the field in the opening 20 minutes and Freed-Hardeman connected on just 11 of 28 shots from the floor, but had just enough firepower to move out to a 27-22 lead at the break. The Blazers picked up the offense in the second half hitting 14 of 28 shots, but unfortunately it wasn't enough as the Lions held on for the 65-56 win.

Regena Jackson led Belhaven, and for that matter all scorers on Friday night thanks to 26 points. Jackson continues to pace the team in scoring this season at 23.6 points per game. Senior
Portia Tucker was the only other Blazer to notch double digit point figures with 13. Senior
Jessica Barlow had a team best 11 rebounds, picked up two assists and a blocked shot. Junior
Windy Charles produced three assists in 14 minutes of work Friday night. The Blazers ended the night shooting 40 percent from the field (22-55) and were outrebounded 44-31.
Freed-Hardeman (8-0) rode on the shoulders of Maria Bagwell who came through with a double double posting 18 points and a game high 17 rebounds. Natalie Shumpert also fired in 18 points on 8 of 15 shooting from the field. As a team, the Lions converted 41.4 percent of their shot attempts from the field (24-58).
Belhaven will be back in action next Saturday December 10th when they travel across town to take on Tougaloo College. It will be the second meeting between the two teams this season. The Blazers won the first showdown 64-57 on November 12th in Rugg Arena. Next Saturday's tipoff is slated for 6:00 PM.
