Jackson, MS-The Belhaven baseball team played their final regular season home game at Smith-Wills Stadium on Tuesday night and came away with an 8-0 non-conference victory over Bethel University (TN) on Senior Night. The Blazers, ranked 11th in the NAIA Top 25 Poll pounded out 13 total hits including five that went for extra bases. Three of those extra base hits were triples giving Belhaven an NAIA best of 36 on the season.
Belhaven (36-13) threatened to score in the first inning, but left the bases loaded and the contest remained scoreless until the bottom of the third inning.
Drew Dillard tripled to right field and crossed the plate on a passed ball by catcher Tyler Roberson to make it 1-0. Following a strikeout by
Jimmy Gilford,
Lake Eiland and
Timmy Foster ripped back to back doubles as Eiland scored the second run of the inning giving the Blazers a 2-0 edge.
Belhaven put up two more runs in the fourth when
Craig Dean tripled and was chased home on a base hit by
Shawn Diehl. Diehl then stole second base and came home on a Dillard single to center field. The Blazers increased the lead to 5-0 in the sixth thanks to another leadoff triple by Dean followed by a Diehl sacrifice fly to left field.
In the eighth, Belhaven put the game away with three runs on four hits.

Mark Gray eventually made it to third base and a sacrifice fly off the bat of Dillard sent him in to make it 6-0.
Lake Eiland brought in Diehl on an infield single and Foster picked up another RBI on a base hit to center to cap the inning.
Wade Broyles came in to pitch the ninth and slammed the door on the Bethel (27-14-1) by striking out the side to lock down the 8-0 win.
Ryan Kassab started for Belhaven and pitched the first three innings allowing only one hit while striking out two.
Chris Bennett (4-3) was credited with the win in relief tossing two innings with two strikeouts.

Andy Kuehn, and
Brandt Hinton each pitched an inning of scoreless baseball.
Timmy Foster led the Blazers at the plate by going 3 for 4 with a double and 2 RBI's. The double by Foster gives him 24 on the season with a team high 59 RBI's.
Drew Dillard had a pair of hits and two runs batted in while
Lake Eiland had two hits and one RBI.
Shawn Diehl tallied two RBI's and two runs scored on a pair of base hits. Dean ended the night with two triples in four plate appearances.
Jordon Smith suffered the loss for Bethel as he pitched the first four innings with four runs on seven hits given up falling to 3-2 this season. Jay Lowery led Bethel in hits with a pair of singles followed by Courtney Hardaway, Alex Jackson and Zach Tippit with one hit apiece. The Blazer pitching staff held the Wildcats to just five hits in the game.
Belhaven will wrap up the regular season this weekend when they travel to Loyola University for a three game Gulf Coast Athletic Conference series starting Friday at 6:00 PM. Three wins by the Blazers this weekend would secure the GCAC regular season championship.
