Blazers Derailed by Bethel

Box Score
McKenzie, TN-The Belhaven baseball team lost for the second time in as many days falling on the road at Bethel University by a final score of 5-4 Wednesday afternoon. The Blazers held a 2-0 lead through the first six innings, but a five run seventh inning by the Wildcats was enough to secure the win.

As was the case on Tuesday at Union, Belhaven (20-6) struck first with two runs in the top of the third to take a 2-0 advantage. The first three batters in the inning reached base safely as Shawn Diehl walked, Drew Dillard singled to left, and then Paul Moreno brought in the first run if the game on a single to left field plating Diehl. Dillard eventually stole third base and crossed the plate in a groundout to third by Timmy Foster.

Blazer starting pitcher Riley Galloway shutdown Bethel through first six innings, but ran into some trouble in the bottom of the seventh. Galloway gave up three runs before giving way to Alan McHenry who was charged with other two runs in the inning. Craig Massey had a double and two runs batted in while Billy Keck and Hunter Deberry each double and collected an RBI. Alex Jackson had the other run scoring hit in the inning to account for the Wildcats other run in the frame.

In the top of the eighth, the Blazers loaded the bases and with two outs Dillard dropped a two run single into center field that chased home Kyle Feazell and Mark Gray on the play. Unfortunately, the inning came to close on a pop up by Moreno with the tying run on second base. Belhaven was shutdown in order in the ninth as Bethel came away with the victory.

He walked one batter and struck out three on the afternoon. Alan McHenry went one inning and was charged with two runs on four hits. Offensively, Dillard led the way with a 3 for 4 afternoon at the plate and tallied 2 RBI's. Moreno had two hits and an RBI while Foster finished the game with a hit and one run batted in.
