Box Score Game 1    Box Score Game 2
Hattiesburg, MS-The Belhaven baseball team lost both games of a doubleheader at Gulf Coast Athletic Conference rival William Carey University Saturday afternoon falling in game one 9-5 and 7-4 in the night cap. The Blazers suffered their first two conference losses of the season after beginning the GCAC schedule 3-0.

Game One:
Things looked promising early in game one as Belhaven (7-3, 3-2 GCAC) opened up a 4-0 lead with a pair of runs in both the first and second innings. Jimmy Gilford had an RBI triple that sent home Drew Dillard and then Lake Eiland chased in Gilford with an RBI single to make it 2-0 after a half inning of play. In the second inning the Blazers got a run on an RBI base hit by Gilford and Mark Gray scored when left fielder Will Dannelley misplayed a base hit by Shawn Diehl that allowed Gray to advance the extra base.

William Carey (7-5, 6-3 GCAC) got on the board with a run in their half of the second on an RBI groundout by Josh Dannelley that plated Will Dannelley from third base. The turning point in the game was the fourth when the Crusaders scored five runs on seven hits. Josh Dannelley singled home the first run of the inning followed by a Garrett Braley RBI double. Jarred Rogers then came in on a wild pitch, Daniel Covert delivered an RBI single, and the final run of the frame came home on a throwing error by Shawn Diehl as all of a sudden William Carey led 6-4.

The Blazers got to within a run on an RBI single by Eiland in the sixth, but the Crusaders had an answer in their half of the inning posting three insurance runs to build their lead to 9-5. Sean Carter, who had come in to pitch in the fifth inning, closed the door on the Blazers in the seventh to secure the win and earn the save.

Eiland and Gilford led the Belhaven offense in game one with two RBI's each while Kyle Feazell paced the team in hits going 4 for 4 at the plate. Chris Bennett was saddled with the loss for Belhaven working two innings allowing three runs on four hits. Will Mann earned the win for William Carey in relief tossing 2.1 innings with just two hits allowed. Josh Dannelley had two RBI's for the Crusaders to pace their offense in game one.

Game Two
William Carey kept the momentum heading into game two scoring a run in each of the first two innings. Jacob Casey singled in a run in the first and Daniel Covert picked up a run batted in on a ground out in the second inning. Belhaven trimmed the Crusader edge to on in the third on an RBI base hit by Timmy Foster that plated Diehl, but William Carey responded with a run of their own in the third inning on a Will Dannelley RBI hit that plated Jason Terrell who had doubled with two outs to keep the inning alive.

Trailing 3-1, Belhaven evened the score in the fifth when Gilford doubled to lead off the inning and then was chased home by a Timmy Foster double. Eiland scored the tying run after reaching base on an error and Brandon Benton drove him in on a base hit to make it a 3-3 game. Unfortunately, the game didn't stay tied for long as William Carey rallied for three runs in the bottom of the fifth before adding an insurance run in the eighth to take the 7-4 win. Gilford accounted for the Blazers only other score that came in the eighth inning as the result of an RBI single by Gilford.

Foster had a pair of RBI's for Belhaven to lead the offense in game two while Gilford and Benton each chipped in with one run batted in. Foster, Benton, and Gilford also collected two hits apiece. As a team, Belhaven out hit the Crusaders 10 to 8 in game two. Alan McHenry took the loss for Belhaven pitching 4.1 innings allowing six runs on six hits.
