Blazers Sweep Saturday Double Header with Tougaloo

Jackson, MS-The Belhaven baseball team took both games of a Gulf Coast Athletic Conference double header against Tougaloo College Saturday afternoon 4-0 and 24-1. The Blazers are now 9-4 on the season and 7-4 in the GCAC. The Bulldogs are still looking for their first win of 2009 falling to 0-12 overall and 0-11 in the conference.
 
Game 1
Tougaloo made things interesting in game one by staying within striking distance of the Blazers the entire game. Belhaven scored their first run of the game in the second inning on a home run by Timmy Foster which was his second of the season. The Blazers wouldn't score again until the sixth inning when Foster went yard for the second time in the game and collected his third home run in 2009.
 
The Blazers got two more insurance runs in the top of the seventh on a solo home run by Chanse Cooper and a triple by Chad Howard that brought in pinch runner Mark Gray. Pitcher Craig Westcott came in and shutdown the Bulldogs in the seventh to preserve the victory.
 
Westcott pitched all seven innings for his second win of the year allowing only two hits while striking out ten Bulldog batters.
 
Game 2
The Belhaven offense broke through in the second game of the double header exploding for 24 runs on 18 hits. The Blazers didn't waste any time as they put a four spot up in the first inning to lead 4-0. Belhaven then went on to plate five runs in the third, six in the fourth, one in the fifth, two in the sixth and six more in the seventh. Tougaloo got their lone score in the bottom of the seventh to avoid the shutout.
 
Craig Dean had a team high 4 RBI's and collected two hits in the game. Kyle Feazell, Chanse Cooper, Lake Eiland, and Asai Adame each drove in three runs a piece. Cooper and Eiland had three hits while Eiland and Adame blasted home runs for Belhaven in the victory over Tougaloo.
 
Paul Faulkenberry made his first start of the season and pitched five scoreless innings giving up two hits while recording seven strikeouts. Joe Patterson was on the mound for the final two frames allowing a run on two hits with three strikeouts.
 
The Blazers return to action at Smith Wills Stadium on Tuesday night at 6 PM for a non-conference game with Bethel College.
