Blazer Women and Men Compete in 2009 Gulf Coast Athletic Conference Championships

Jackson, MS-The Belhaven women's and men's cross country teams gathered early this morning to race in the 2009 Gulf Coast Athletics Conference Championships held at the Choctaw Trails Course in Clinton, Mississippi. The Blazer women finished 4th out of seven teams with a total time of 1:53:46.06 in the 5,000 meters while the Blazer men finished 4th out of seven teams with a total time of 2:35:09:11 in the 8,000 meter race.

On the women's side, Hannah Reese paced the Blazers finishing in 4th place out of 44 runners with a total time of 20:12.55. Callie Osborn finished in the 16th position with an overall time of 22:12.37 while Jackie Bateman 17th, Lea Schumacher 18th, Katie Butler 31st, and Nikki Stackhouse 41st completed the trail with times of 22:15.77, 22:22.63, 26:42.74, and 30:21.51 respectively.

For the men, Thomas Kazery was the Belhaven's top runner with an overall time of 29:51.11 finishing 8th out of 53 contestants. Luke Lennon trailed in the 13th position with an overall time of 30:26.24 while Douglas Coker 17th, Peter Davis 18th, Andrew Sinclair 31st, Sonny Gunn 45th, and Adam Jones 48th finished the course with times of 30:49.29, 30:53.65, 33:08.82, 38:35.29, and 40:27.87 respectively.

After the completion of Saturday's race, Blazer freshmen Hannah Reese and sophomore Thomas Kazery both qualified for the NAIA National meet in Vancouver, WA November 21st. “I am very proud of my runners today,” said Head Cross Country Coach Christie Barber, “We have a young women's and men's cross country teams who give it their all everyday and it showed in Saturday's race.”
