Rome, GA-The Belhaven football team could do little to slow down Shorter College Saturday afternoon, falling to the Hawks by a final of 35-0. The Blazers are now 2-8 on the season and 1-4 in the Mid-South Conference. Shorter improves to 8-2 on the year and have won their last four games.

The Hawks scored their two first half touchdowns on runs by A.J. Cooley. Trailing 14-0 at halftime, the Blazers remained alive in the game if they could make some plays in the second half. Unfortunately, that did not turn out to be the case as the Belhaven offense was kept off the board. The Hawks tacked on three more scores on another touchdown run by A.J. Cooley, a touchdown pass from Ben Williams and another scoring run by David Byrd.

As a team, Belhaven had just 112 yards of total offense including just four net yards rushing. The Blazers were also plagued by turnovers with two fumbles and two interceptions. Meanwhile, Shorter racked up 369 total yards with 331 of those being on the ground. The Hawks attempted just four passes on the afternoon.

Individually, the Blazers were led in rushing by Damien Davis with eight carries for 40 yards. Through the air, Ryan Duvall completed five passes for 42 yards but had two interceptions. Jerred Wallace and Joshua Bohanan also saw time at the quarterback position. Anthony Embry hauled in four passes for 31 yards to lead Belhaven in receiving. Defensively, Reginald Lumpkin had 15 total tackles and Eric Ducksworth tallied the only sack of the day for Belhaven.

The Blazers will wrap up the 2008 season next weekend at Union College in Kentucky. Kickoff is set for 12:30 PM.
