Kyle Norris Named USA South Special Teams Player of the Week

ROME, Ga. - Kyle Norris of the Belhaven Football team has been named the USA South Special Teams Player of the Week following his dominant performance in controlling field position in the Blazers' Homecoming game against Southern Virginia on Saturday.

Norris was named USA South Special Teams Player of the Week on Monday, the first weekly conference honor of his career, after punting five times for 273 yards in Belhaven's Homecoming game against Southern Virginia. His 54.6-yard average was a season best.

The senior from Gardendale, Alabama, placed a career-high four punts inside the 20. Four of his five punts traveled at least 50 yards, including a 63-yarder that tied his season long. None went for a touchback.

His 63-yard punt put Southern Virginia at its 1 in the first quarter. Later in the quarter, a 51-yarder backed the Knights up to the one again. On the next play, Tre Chaffier and Quincy Jackson stopped Kendrick Worthington in the end zone for a safety that gave Belhaven a 9-0 lead.

Norris leads NCAA Division III with a 46.3-yard punting average this season, a mark that ranks 12th across all NCAA divisions. He also leads the USA South in punting average, punts of 50 yards or more (13) and touchbacks (five). Through seven games, he has punted 31 times for 1,434 yards.

Norris and the Blazers head back to North Carolina for a game on Saturday against Methodist. Kickoff is set for 12:00 PM.
