JACKSON, Miss. - Belhaven freshman defensive lineman
Quincy Jackson has been named the USA South Defensive Rookie of the Week following the Blazers' 35-21 win over N.C. Wesleyan on Friday night.
Jackson finished with five tackles, including three solo stops, and shared a sack with
John Ross Craven. The New Orleans native made an impact on the Bishops' first drive, helping hold a run to two yards before limiting quarterback Braden Selvage to a one-yard gain on third-and-13. N.C. Wesleyan missed a field goal on the next play.
Jackson and Craven were back in the backfield on the Bishops' next possession, bringing down Selvage for a three-yard loss on first down. N.C. Wesleyan punted two plays later.
Belhaven held the Bishops to 50 rushing yards, recorded four sacks and recovered two fumbles in the victory. The Blazers improved to 2-3 overall and 1-1 in USA South play.
Through five games, Jackson leads Belhaven with 5.5 tackles for loss. He has 21 tackles, two sacks, four quarterback hurries and two pass breakups in his first collegiate season.
Belhaven travels to Greensboro on Saturday for a noon CT kickoff.
