Blazer’s Outgunned by Lambuth

Jackson, MS-The Belhaven football team took one on the chin losing to the Eagles of Lambuth University 63-13 Saturday afternoon at H.T. Newell Field. The Blazers are now 2-7 overall and 1-3 in the Mid-South Conference. The Eagles are now 7-2 and remain unbeaten in conference play at 4-0. Lambuth also extended its winning streak to seven games.
                                                        
The Eagles put the first 36 points on the board as the Blazers could do little to slow down a Lambuth offense that was averaging around 42 points per game coming in. The Eagles got two touchdown passes a piece from Josh Garza and Adam Wiese, plus a half back touchdown pass from Victor Robinson to Josh Garza. The Eagles also picked up a safety during that stretch, sacking quarterback Barry Johnson in the end zone.
 
Belhaven got on the board for the first time with 4:19 to go in the first half as Damien Davis took it in from one yard out to make it 36-7. Lambuth struck back as Josh Garza completed an eight yard touchdown pass to Jesse Ferrell to make it 42-7 with 3:14 to go in the first half.
 
The Blazers then put together a seven play 76 yard drive which was capped off by Freshman Quarterback Joshua Bohanan's first touchdown pass of the season as Barry Johnson hauled it in from 15 yards out. The extra point was blocked and the score stayed at 49-13.Unfortunately, that's all the offense the Blazers could muster Saturday afternoon. The Eagles would go on to score three more times in the second half to pull away for the victory.
 
There were some bright spots for the Blazers in Saturday's game with Bohanan getting some playing time at the quarterback position. He completed 10 out of 13 passes for 192 yards and a touchdown. Shaun Ector had another solid day catching passes reeling in seven tosses for 85 yards. Defensively, Cameron Achord led the team in tackles with 9 and had an interception. Reginald Lumpkin also chipped in with eight tackles, five of which were unassisted.
 
Belhaven will be on the road for the final two weeks of the season heading to Rome, Georgia next week to take on Shorter College. The kickoff is slated for 12:30 central time.
