Box Score
Tuscaloosa, AL-The Belhaven men's basketball team played hard, but Alabama was too much for the Blazers as the Crimson Tide rolled to a 97-43 victory in an exhibition game at Coleman Coliseum. Belhaven entered Thursday's game at 3-0 on the season and officially remain unbeaten on the year since this was an exhibition game. The game was the final warm-up for Alabama before opening the regular season this Sunday against Mercer.
Belhaven scored the first basket of the game as
Korey Whiting got in the paint for a layup off an assist from
Krayleon Winston. The Blazers did a good job of hanging in the game through the first 10 minutes of action. Alabama led by just four points 16-12 with 9:53 left to play in the opening half. The Tide then went on a 13-0 run to take control of the game and at that point led 29-12. Alabama then extended their advantage to 21 points 44-23 going into the break.
The second half was all Alabama as the Tide outscored the Blazers in the final 20 minutes 53-20 to secure the victory 97-43. Turnovers cost Belhaven Thursday as they coughed up the ball 31 times and the Tide took advantage by scoring 40 points off of those miscues.
The Blazers were led in scoring by
Korey Whiting and
Dax Miller who each had nine points in the game.
Iman Walcott was Belhaven's leading rebounder pulling down 11 boards. As a team the Blazers shot 29 percent from the field and 13 percent from three point range. Belhaven held their own on the boards as Alabama had a slight edge in that category 47-43. Despite the final score, the team gained some valuable experience playing against NCAA Division I competition.
The Blazers are back in action this Saturday as they return home to battle cross town rival Millsaps College at Rugg Arena. Tip-Off is slated for 7 PM.
