Belhaven senior catcher Tee Payne was named the C Spire Athlete of the Week following his performance on the diamond over the weekend against ASC opponent Concordia Texas.

In game one of the series, Payne ended the contest with an 11th-inning, walk-off homerun to give the Green and Gold the 3-2 win over the Tornados.

It is his first homer of the season, and the second of his career for the Columbus, Miss. native.

On the week, Payne went 3-for-8 with two runs scored and an RBI.

Payne and the rest of the Blazers return to the diamond on Tuesday to take on Tougaloo in the final game of their homestand. Following Tuesday’s action, the Green and Gold hit the road to take on Mary Hardin-Baylor in Belton, Texas for a three-game conference series, beginning Friday at 4 p.m. with a doubleheader.
