JACKSON, Miss. – Belhaven Softball player Juilenne Broussard has been selected as the C Spire Athlete of the Week following her performance this past week ending February 20, 2016.
Juilenne Broussard led the Blazers to a pair of victories over No. 1 University of Texas at Tyler on Friday and Saturday, marking the second straight week with an upset victory of a top-5 ranked opponent.
On Friday, Juilenne Broussard didn’t allow a hit until the fifth inning, after the Blazers had already gained a lead. She would only allow one more hit before striking out 10 of UT Tyler’s batters en route to a 2-0 victory.
On Saturday, Broussard finished her second start with just three hits allowed, while striking out four, as the Blazers won 4-1. Over the two days, Broussard pitched 14 innings, allowing five hits, seven walks, and one unearned run, while striking out 14 Patriot batters.
Broussard was also recognized with NCCAA National Player of the Week Honors for her efforts in the series against the Patriots.
Broussard was an AII-SSAC Selection in 2015, posting a 14-6 record with an earned run average of 1.79. She allowed just 90 hits with 489 total batters faced and compiled 128 strikeouts.
The wins Friday and Saturday by the Blazers handed the Patriots two losses in the regular season for the first time since 2014. It is also the first time the Patriots lost two games in the same weekend series since losing to LeTourneau twice on April 9, 2011.
Belhaven is set to return to action on Friday and Saturday with a trip to Richardson, Texas to take on University of Texas at Dallas.
