Vamikka Smith has been selected as the C Spire Athlete of the Week following her performances on the court last week against Howard Payne and Sul Ross State.
Smith recorded her second double-double of the season on Thursday to help the Blazers defeat Howard Payne 85-62. The senior forward totaled 11 points and 10 rebounds to go along with two assists, two steals and one block.
In Saturday's 62-49 victory over Sul Ross State, Smith tallied seven points and 11 boards, including four on the offensive glass.
Smith has now registered double-digit rebound totals in each of the past four games. The Blazers have won three games in a row and five of their last six contests, bringing their season record to 8-5.
For the season, Smith ranks sixth in the American Southwest Conference (ASC) in rebounds per game (8.3) and blocked shots (1.2), while also ranking in the top 20 in steals per game (1.6).
The Blazers travel this week to Pineville, La. and Marshall, Texas, taking on Louisiana College on Thursday and East Texas Baptist on Saturday.
