JACKSON, Miss. - Belhaven starting pitcher Shane Brown was named the C Spire Athlete of the Week following his performance on the mound Saturday against Eureka College at the Marler Ford Classic.
In the Blazers 10-0 win over the Red Devils on Saturday, the senior went the distance, tossing seven shutout innings, scattering four hits while not allowing a free pass, and striking out eight batters.Â
The Braxton, Miss. native did not allow a baserunner through the first 13 at-bats before allowing a single in the bottom of the fifth inning. Three of the four hits that were allowed saw runners stranded in scoring position.Â
It only took Brown 79 pitches en route to his second win of the season.Â
In 2017, Brown is 2-2 with a 4.67 ERA. His 27 strikeouts are ranked eighth in the American Southwest Conference.Â
Brown and the rest of the Blazers conclude their road trip this weekend in Abilene, Texas with a three-game series against the War Hawks of McMurry University. The series begins Friday afternoon with a doubleheader.
