JACKSON, Miss. - Belhaven and Huntingdon meet for the second time in seven days, this time with a place in the CCS semifinals at stake in a Halloween matchup at the Bowl. The Blazers earned the No. 3 seed with a 2-2-1 conference record and will host the sixth-seeded Hawks in the tournament's opening round.
LAST TIME OUTÂ | The teams played to a scoreless draw in Montgomery on October 24th. Belhaven outshot Huntingdon 16-9 and put six attempts on goal, but Hawks goalkeeper Trent Wineberg stopped them all.
Wyatt Dupre accounted for seven of the Blazers' shots and five of their six attempts on target. At the other end,
Justin Ramirez made four saves to secure the clean sheet.
A FAMILIAR POSTSEASON FOE | This is the third Belhaven-Huntingdon quarterfinal in four CCS tournaments. The Blazers won the 2023 meeting 2-0 and the 2025 meeting 5-0, both at Belhaven Bowl Stadium. The buildup also has a familiar look: Belhaven and Huntingdon drew 0-0 during the 2023 regular season before the Blazers broke through in their quarterfinal rematch.
TOURNAMENT TESTED |Â Belhaven has reached the CCS semifinals in each of the past three seasons. The Blazers advanced to the final in 2023, then returned in 2024 and defeated Covenant 2-0 for their first CCS championship and NCAA Division III Tournament berth. Belhaven is 5-3 in CCS Tournament matches since the league began play in 2022.
THE BOWL IN OCTOBER | Belhaven has won all four CCS Tournament matches it has hosted, outscoring Huntingdon, Maryville and Asbury by a combined 14-3. The two Huntingdon quarterfinals account for seven of those goals, with neither visiting Hawks side scoring at the Bowl.
A LONG RUN OF CLEAN SHEETS | Belhaven has held Huntingdon scoreless in seven consecutive meetings dating to 2022. The Blazers are 5-0-2 in those matches with a 12-0 scoring advantage. Saturday offers a chance to extend that run while ending the scoreless stretch from last week's draw.
WILLIAMS IN THE QUARTERFINALS | Senior
Courtland Williams has scored in both of Belhaven's previous tournament wins over Huntingdon. He opened the scoring in the 28th minute of the 2023 quarterfinal and struck 40 seconds into the second half last year, when
Graham Harris supplied the assist.
Adrian Sanchez also found the net in the 2025 victory.
REGULAR SEASON REWIND | Belhaven enters the postseason 2-0-1 over its last three matches, having scored eight goals and conceded two in that stretch. The Blazers finished the regular season with 40 goals from 18 different scorers. Sanchez leads the group with seven, Dupre has six, and
Ricardo Flores has a team-high six assists. Belhaven has also held advantages over its opponents in shots (275-180), shots on goal (104-88) and corner kicks (95-80).
RECENT HONORS |Â Freshman
Luke Finley and Ramirez swept the CCS Offensive and Defensive Player of the Week awards following Belhaven's wins over MUW and Piedmont. Finley scored twice in the opening 63 seconds against Piedmont, while Ramirez made eight saves in the 2-1 victory. Ramirez followed with another four-save effort at Huntingdon.
NOW AND LATER | Huntingdon enters with eight draws in 16 matches, including three in CCS play. Wineberg, a CCS Defensive Player of the Week selection earlier this season, gave the Hawks the stops they needed to earn last Saturday's point. The winner of this quarterfinal advances to face No. 2 Covenant on Friday, November 6, at the Loretta P. Spencer Sports Complex in Huntsville, Alabama. The CCS championship match follows November 7, with the conference's automatic NCAA Tournament berth on the line.
