Alumni Spotlight: Andrew West

Why did you choose Belhaven?

"They had a very recognized program and won the national championship in 2012 which made it very appealing. Finding out a best mate of mine Craig McCabe was going as well made it an easy decision."

What is your favorite memory from your time as a Blazer?

"My favorite memory as a Blazer was beating Martin Methodist in overtime in 2014. After losing to them three times in 2013—twice in double overtime and once in overtime, including the conference, conference tournament final, and the national tournament. I was a very happy man after beating them and putting that to bed!"

What is your best memory as a student-athlete?

"Having my family in town for my graduation in 2016."

What do you miss the most from your time at Belhaven?

"Playing soccer every day and making new connections. I made several friends for life during my time as a Blazer."

How do you stay involved with the game of soccer today?

"I coached from 2016-2019 at the club (MS Rush/JFC), collegiate (Mississippi College), and high school level (Madison Ridgeland Academy). Currently I enjoy watching the game on the TV and getting out to local tournaments."

Who is the best player you played with?

"Cillian Thompson. Box to box midfielder. Good for a goal/assist. Unreal dribbling ability considering he had size 18 feet!"
