Top Moments of 2025: Belhaven Outlasts Asbury in CCS Women's Basketball Semifinal

JACKSON, Miss. - As 2025 draws to a close, Belhaven Athletics is proud to recount some of the many moments displayed by Blazers student-athletes and teams that made this calendar year one to remember. Over the remainder of the year, multiple moments will be recounted, featuring each of Belhaven's athletics programs.

TOP MOMENTS OF 2025: BLAZERS OUTLAST ASBURY IN CCS WOMEN'S BASKETBALL SEMIFINAL

Our first top moment from 2025 comes from the Belhaven Women's Basketball team who punched their ticket to the CCS Women's Basketball Championship for a second straight campaign as they took down Asbury 66-60 in the tournament semifinal.

It was the Eagles who jumped out to the early lead by scoring the game's first seven points. Belhaven battled back with a pair of threes, but Asbury took a 12-6 lead into the first media timeout.  The Blazers closed the first quarter strong and were able to cut a once nine-point lead to 20-15 after one.

Belhaven continued that momentum into the second by outscoring the Eagles by 11 to take a 31-25 lead late in the half. Asbury closed the gap, but the Blazers still held on the lead at 33-30 heading into the halftime break.

The Eagles grabbed the lead late in the third quarter before a Belhaven spurt cut the score to 49-46 Eagles after three. Once again, the Blazers outplayed their opponent down the stretch, outscoring Asbury 20-11 in the final quarter to secure the win and a spot in the CCS Championship for the second straight year. Free throws from Veronica Williams in the final minute put a bow on the victory for the Green and Gold.

Katelyn Coleman provided a massive offensive spark off the bench, totaling 17 points and six rebounds to lead the Blazers. Ally Alford and Shakendalah Jones finished in double figures as well with 10 points apiece.

The Blazers are already off to a fast start in the 2025-26 campaign as they sit 7-1 overall with their only defeat coming in an OT loss. The Blazers return to action on Friday, January 2nd when they take on Agnes Scott in the CCS opener.
