JACKSON - The Belhaven Women's Soccer team returns to action on Saturday as they host the University of the Ozarks at the Belhaven Bowl Stadium. After a tough loss against East Texas Baptist last weekend and then a midweek defeat at Rhodes, the Blazers are looking to bounce back as non-conference action rolls on.
The Blazers come into play Saturday 1-2 on the season but with high expectations for where the campaign can lead. Bouncing back against Ozarks this weekend is the first step in righting the ship for a program that is planning to compete at the top of the CCS Standings.
The Eagles out of Clarksville, Arkansas are 2-0-1 on the early season and coming off a 1-0 victory over Belhaven's crosstown rival Millsaps on Friday. All time the Blazers are 3-3-1 against the Eagles but have won the past two matches by a 5-0 aggregate scoreline. Most recently the Blazers took down Ozarks 3-0 in October of 2021 with current senior goalkeeper
Julianne Wilson keeping a clean sheet with two saves.
Halley Wheeler leads the way for Ozarks so far this season with three goals, all scored in a hat-trick performance against Central Baptist College. Angelina Lotz and Taliana Schmidt are each also multi-goal scorers on the year for Ozarks. Ozarks' goalkeeper Melanie Glossup has yet to concede a goal this season with 12 saves across three starts in net.
Belhaven will be looking for a consistent goal-scoring presence with
Ally Davis the only goalscorer through the first three matches of the year. Defensively, Belhaven will look to regain their stingy goals conceded record from last season when they allowed less than a goal per contest.
Kickoff agaisnt the Eagles is set for 12:00 PM at the Belhaven Bowl Stadium. The game can be streamed on the Blazers Sports Network at blazers.belhaven.edu/watch.
