Brett Sanchez and third baseman
Owen Abney were named to the D3baseball.com All-Region VI teams announced on Tuesday. Sanchez was tabbed to the All-Region VI First Team, while Abney was tabbed to the Second Team.
Sanchez earns the First Team nod after another dominant campaign in his final season as a Blazer. The Slidell, Louisiana native went 7-2 with a 2.52 ERA in 12 appearances during 2024, striking out 93 in 89.1 innings pitched. The Blazers' righthander hurled five complete games and held opponents to just a .201 batting average while boasting a .88 WHIP.
The recognition marks Sanchez's third consecutive All-Region selection from the D3baseball.com publication as he was named the the organization's Pitcher of the Year last season. Sanchez further solidified himself as one of the all-time greats in Belhaven history as the program's career leader in pitching wins (33), games started (50), complete games (24), shutouts (9), innings pitched (388.1), and strikeouts (408).
Abney was named to the Second Team after a breakout sophomore campaign for the Blazers' third baseman. The Madison, Mississippi native hit a team-leading .350 with 56 hits, five doubles, a triple, and 10 home runs. Abney held a .971 OPS and .581 slugging percentage to lead the Collegiate Conference of the South in both categories on his way to being named the league's Player of the Year.Â
