SAVANNAH, Ga. - The Belhaven Golf team wrapped up their final round at the Savannah Country Club in Georgia on Tuesday as they finished play in the Port City Classic hosted by Berry College. The Blazers placed 10th out of 17 teams in what was the first tournament of the spring for the Green and Gold.
Belhaven opened the tournament in strong fashion, shooting a 296 as a team in the opening round, good for 4th overall after the first 18 holes. The Blazers were led by
Luke Couch in the early going, who sat atop the individual leaderboard at various points in the opening round.
The Blazers continued well in the second round, also on day one, but saw their momentum interrupted as the second 18 was cut short due to darkness and forced to resume early on Tuesday morning.
Will Justice would lead the way in the second round with a 74 (+3) and Belhaven would sit in the heart of the field entering the final round on Tuesday afternoon.
In the final few holes of the tournament, the Blazers jumped into the top 10, in large part to a strong final round from
Andrew Scherer who bounced back after a tough couple of early round to card a 75 (+4) on the final day.
Overall,
Luke Couch was the individual leader for the Blazers, finishing inside the top 25 individuals with a 224 (+11) including an under-par 70 (-1) in the opening round.
Will Justice also finished inside the top half of individuals shooting a three-round 229 (+16).
The Blazers will have a quick turnaround before their next tournament as they head to Texas early next week to compete in the Pinecrest Invitational at Pinecrest Country Club in Longview, Texas.Â
