SEWANEE, Tenn. - The Belhaven Track & Field Program had a stellar day at the Sewanee Invitational on Saturday as the Women took top spot in the meet and the Men posted a top five team finish. The Blazers took top spot in three events and finished third out of 18 teams in the combined standings.
Taking top spot in the Team standings, the Belhaven Women had an impressive performance at the Sewanee Indoor Meet including picking up first place in two individual events.
Syniah Sims took top spot in the Women's 200 Meters with a time of 26.68 seconds. The Blazers tallied three top five finishes in the event with
Jakia Joiner (3rd) and
Anneshia Greer (4th) joining Sims.
Ashaunti Barnes also took home an individual event win on the day as she led the way in the Women's 400 Meters with a time of 1:01.72 and was followed closely by
Kimona Haynes in 2nd place at 1:02.16.
D'Asia Franklin (3rd) and
Evelle Dillon (5th) both put together strong performances in the Women's High Jump while Franklin also grabbed a 2nd place finish in the Women's 55 Meter Hurdles.
On the Men's Side,
Kelsey Singleton continued his strong start to the indoor season as he took first place in the Men's 400 Meters with a time of 51.67 seconds. Caleb Drake also posted a top five finish in the event, finishing 4th at 53.53 seconds. Singleton also took 2nd place in the 200 Meters with a finish of 22.79 seconds.Â
TyKell Thomas picked up a strong finish in the Men's 55 Meter Hurdles, taking 2nd place at 7.97 seconds.
Alex Reed finished 3rd in the Men's High Jump while
Makaleb Crowley posted a strong finish in the Men's Triple Jump finishing 5th in the event.
The Blazers Track & Field Program is set to return to action on March 2nd when they travel to the Mississippi College Outdoor Season Opener in Clinton.Â
