TRAVERSE CITY, Mich. -
Brett Sanchez of the Belhaven Baseball team continues to shine in the
Northwoods League which is a summer league aimed at the development of elite college baseball players. The league features players from all levels of collegiate baseball and is home to 23 teams making it one of the largest leagues of its kind in the country.
Sanchez was named as a member of the Great Lakes West All-Star Team after a stellar first half of the season with the Green Bay Rockers. In the Great Lakes Division All-Star Game, Sanchez got the start for the West and struck out a pair of hitters across three batters faced and helped jumpstart the West en route to an 11-7 win over the Great Lakes East All-Star team.
On the season, Sanchez leads the entire Northwoods League in strikeouts with 63 across 51.1 innings of work. Overall, Sanchez is 5-1 across eight starts and boasts a 3.16 ERA which is the fourth best in the league. His .225 batting average against tops the league and his 0.99 WHIP is joint-best among league qualifiers.
The Green Bay Rockers topped the Great Lakes West sub-division in the first half of the year earning them a spot in the Sub-Divisional Series. They currently sit 2nd in the Great Lakes West Sub-Division in the 2nd half of the season, 2.5 games out of first place.
Sanchez was named the D3Baseball.com National Pitcher of the Year following his 2023 campaign with the Blazers and currently sits as Belhaven's all-time strikeouts, complete games and shutouts leader while also being the program's joint-all-time wins leader.
