JACKSON, Miss. - The final day of the CCS Outdoor Track and Field Championships saw the Blazers land four more event titles with three individuals landing conference championships as well as the Women's 4 x 100 Meter Relay. Overall, the Belhaven Men placed 4th among teams while the Belhaven Women ended 3rd.
Jelecia Brown picked up her 2nd conference title of the weekend as she took home top spot in the Shot Put with a distance of 11.78 meters. The impressive showing comes a day after Brown took home the title Women's Hammer Throw adding to an impressive 2023 outdoor resumé.
Desire Tackett made it a strong finish for the Blazers in the event as she placed 3rd among individuals with a distance of 10.65 meters.
Ashaunti Barnes also picked up an individual title for the Belhaven Women as she finished 1st in the Women's 400 Meters. Barnes grabbed her first of two titles on the day with a time of 56.39 seconds in the event. She was joined in the top five by
Kimona Haynes (3rd) and
Maurissa Winford (5th).
The Women's 4 x 100 Meter Relay team took 1st in the their event with an impressive time of 49.53 seconds. The team was comprised of
Ashaunti Barnes,
Anneshia Greer,
Kimona Haynes and
Maurissa Winford and helped pick up important points for the Blazers overall.
For the Belhaven Men,
Kelsey Singleton posted the top finish as he finished 1st in the Men's 200 Meters earning his first conference title. Singleton posted a time of 21.60 seconds and put together an impressive display as he placed 2nd in the Men's 100 Meters and was a part of the Men's 4 x 400 Meter Relay team that placed 2nd.
In total, the Blazers took home six individual championships to go along with the relay title in what was a successful first CCS Championships for the program.
