BIRMINGHAM, Ala. - The Belhaven Men's and Women's Track and Field teams had stellar starts to the 2023-24 season on Friday as they posted a strong showing at the BSC Panther Indoor Icebreaker including multiple individual record-setting performances.

The Women's side of the event was highlighted by impressive performances, particularly in track events. Syniah Sims was stellar in her first meet for the Blazers qualifying out the first set of 60 Meter pre-lims with a time of 7.66 seconds which was a school record for indoor meets. She also tabbed a top-15 finish in the Women's 200 Meters on the day. Sims currently sits first nationally in Division III in the 60 Meters while holding the second best mark in the 200 Meters nationally. 

Ashaunti Barnes also put together a record-setting day as she placed sixth in the 400 Meters with a school record time of 58.48 seconds. Kimona Haynes was also in the top 15 in the event with a finish of 59.42 seconds. Barnes and Haynes sit first and second nationally in the Division III Qualifier list after Friday.

Jakia Joiner also grabbed a school record on Friday with a distance of 10.60 meters in the triple jump. Rounding out the top finishes for the Blazers on the day was Jelecia Brown who ended inside the top 15 in the Shot Put with a distance of 11.23 meters.

On the Men's side, Justice Moore qualified through the first round of pre-lims of the 60 Meters with a time of 7.05 seconds before besting his own mark in the pre-lim finals with a school record time of 6.99 seconds. TyKell Thomas made it through the first round of pre-lims in the 60 Meters Hurdles while Kelsey Singleton led the Men in the 200 Meters placing 12th with a time of 22.52 seconds. All three men also now sit inside the top 10 nationally on the Division III Indoor Qualifying list. 

The Blazers will pause their campaign during the holiday season before returning to action on January 21st at the Samford Open in Birmingham, Alabama.
