JACKSON, Miss. – Despite jumping out to an early lead, the Belhaven Men's Basketball team fell to Millsaps, 79-68, in the Hangar Dome on Tuesday night.
The Blazers were firing on all cylinders in the early going, knocking down their first seven shots to take a 20-7 lead with 14 minutes to play in the first half. The Majors responded with a 16-0 run late in the first half to take a 34-28 lead with just over three minutes to go. The Green and Gold closed on a 12-5 run to take a 40-39 advantage into the locker room.
Both teams went back and forth to begin the second 20 minutes, but Millsaps was able to regain the lead at 49-45 entering the first media timeout of the second half. The Majors were able to extend their lead to seven with eight minutes to go, but Belhaven would not go away. Five straight points by
Judah Jordan cut the home team's lead to 65-63, but Millsaps stretched its lead out to nine after a pair of threes put them up 73-64.
The Blazers got within seven at the 2:20 mark, but that was as close as they could get as the Majors walked away with a 79-68 home win.
Luke Couch led Belhaven with 20 points on the night.
Damien Wheaton filled the stat sheet with nine points, 12 rebounds, and a school-record eight blocks in the contest.
The Blazers return to Rugg Arena Saturday, January 28th as they are set to host Maryville. Tipoff is slated for 4 PM.
