JACKSON, Miss. -
Brett Sanchez of the Belhaven Baseball team pulled in significant preseason recognition on Wednesday as he was named to the D3Baseball.com Preseason All-American First Team.
Sanchez was named an Second Team All-American last season by D3Baseball as he fronted a strong Blazers' rotation that finished 28-16 overall last season. Sanchez continued to build a stellar career resumé with Belhaven with arguably his most impressive campaign to date as he went 8-1 in 11 starts while throwing four complete games. Sanchez posted a career best 2.01 ERA in 2022 while striking out 84 hitters in 85.0 innings of work.
In his three seasons with Belhaven, the Slidell, La. native is 20-5 across 28 career starts while throwing 14 complete games, third most in program history. His six career shutouts are the most in program history and helped him to a 2.18 career ERA. In 214.2 innings Sanchez has struck out 205 hitters and limited opposition to just a .211 batting average.
Throughout his career Sanchez has pulled in a myriad of recognition including being named to All-Region teams in both 2021 and 2022 while also being named a finalist for Mississippi's prestigious Ferriss trophy this past year.
Sanchez and the Blazers open up their 2023 season in just a few short weeks as they host Rhodes College at Trustmark Park on February 7th. First pitch against the Lynx is set for 2 PM.
