RICHARDSON, Texas - Judith Mills of the Belhaven Women's Tennis team was named the Newcomer of the Year for the East Division of the American Southwest Conference on Tuesday, recognition of a successful first campaign as a Blazer.

Mills, a Pontotoc, Mississippi native, joined Belhaven this year from Jones College where she finished her career 41-7 in singles play and 40-9 in doubles play across 2019 to 2021. Mills was named to the ASC Preseason Watch List for Women's Tennis and competed as the Blazers' top singles competitor. 

On the year, Mills picked up a couple of impressive singles wins for the team leading to a pair of stints as a C Spire Athlete of the Week. Mills first Athlete of the Week recognition came back in late February as she was dominant in singles competition for the Blazers picking up a pair of 6-0 set wins against Mississippi University for Women. Mills also paired with Khin Lwin to take a doubles match against the Owls giving Mills a pair of wins on the day and helping Belhaven to an unbeaten performance against MUW.

She followed that with another Athlete of the Week nod in early April as Mills picked up a win in her singles match against East Texas Baptist University. In the American Southwest Conference Mills defeated the Tigers' top contender in two sets with 6-1 and 6-2 scorelines respectively. Mills' victory was the Blazers' lone win on that day and she picked up her first conference matchup victory as a Blazer.
