Sanchez Named Finalist For Ferriss Trophy

JACKSON, Miss. – Brett Sanchez of the Belhaven Baseball team has been named one of five finalists for the 2022 Ferriss Trophy, which is presented to the Most Outstanding Baseball Player in Mississippi.  The Ferriss Trophy is named after legendary player and Coach Dave "Boo" Ferriss and this is the 18th presentation of the award. Voters include the college baseball coaches from around the state and a group of professional scouts who cover the state of Mississippi.  

Brett becomes the 4th finalist for the Blazers in the 18th year history of the award and the first since 2014 when Tyler Akins was named a finalist.  

Sanchez led the Blazers' pitching staff with an 8-1 record through 85 innings pitched. The sophomore appeared in 11 games, earned one shutout, and posted a .91 WHIP. Additionally, he went the distance four times, tallied 84 strikeouts, and faced 318 batters.  

Sanchez is one of three pitchers and two position players that was named a finalist for the Ferriss Trophy.  RJ Yeager – Mississippi State, Tim Elko – Ole Miss, Tanner Hall –USM, Harrison Haley – Delta State were the other finalists.  

Tickets for the luncheon which begins at 11:30 on Monday, May 23 are available on the Hall of Fame website, www.msfame.com, or at the museum. Former Mississippi State coach Ron Polk will be the featured speaker and each respective coach will talk about their players. Individual tickets are $40 while a table of 8 tickets are $350 with additional benefits. 

The Blazers finished the 2022 season with a 28-16 record overall and 19-11 in conference play.
