Blazers Baseball Wraps up Series at Huntingdon

MONTGOMERY, Ala. - The No. 16 ranked Belhaven Baseball team wrapped up its weekend series at Huntingdon on Saturday, falling in both games of a doubleheader at Neal Posey Field. The Blazers move to 25-10 on the season.

Game One: Huntingdon 11, Belhaven 4
The opener stayed tight early before one inning swung the game.

Belhaven had chances in the first and second, putting multiple runners on base, but could not break through. Huntingdon took advantage in the fifth, stringing together six hits along with a walk to score six runs and take control of the game at 6-0.

The Blazers answered in the seventh. After Marvin Jackson was hit by a pitch, Jake McCann delivered a two-run home run to get Belhaven on the board and cut the deficit to 6-2.

Belhaven looked to build momentum in the inning, loading the bases later in the frame, but a flyout ended the threat.

Huntingdon responded again in the eighth, capitalizing on a pair of hits and multiple free passes to push across five runs and extend the lead to 11-2.

The Blazers continued to compete late. In the ninth, Blake McCarthy singled and a defensive miscue helped set up a scoring chance. Austin Canale drove in a run with a groundout, and Hayden Roberts followed with another RBI groundout to trim the final margin to 11-4.

Despite the loss, McCann led the offense with two hits and two RBI, while Parker Ryan added a pair of hits.

Game Two: Huntingdon 10, Belhaven 5
The second game followed a similar pattern, with Belhaven mounting a rally but unable to overcome a mid-game deficit.

Huntingdon scored in the second and third innings, then broke things open in the fourth with a three-run frame to take a 5-0 lead.

Belhaven threatened in the early innings but left runners on base, including a fourth-inning chance after Owen Abney doubled to put a runner in scoring position.

The Blazers broke through in the seventh with their biggest inning of the day. Easton Humphrey sparked the rally with a single, and after two runners reached, Brayden Thompson was hit by a pitch to force in a run. Blake McCarthy followed with an RBI hit-by-pitch, and Hayden Roberts drew a bases-loaded walk to bring home another run.

Moments later, Austin Canale came through with a two-run single to cut the deficit to 7-5.

Belhaven had a chance to pull even, but a strikeout ended the inning with two runners still on. Huntingdon answered immediately in the bottom half. A walk and a hit batter set the table before a three-run home run pushed the lead back to 10-5 but Belhaven could not mount another rally over the final two innings.

Belhaven will close out its non-conference schedule on Tuesday with a road matchup at Rhodes before returning to CCS play.
