LOUISVILLE, Ky. - The Belhaven Softball team was ranked at #5 in Tuesday's NFCA DIII Poll, re-entering the nation's Top 5 after a weekend sweep of the University of the Ozarks on the road.
Belhaven solidified their spot atop the ASC standings over the weekend with a series sweep of the Eagles taking Friday's doubleheader with scorelines of 3-2 and 3-1 before icing the weekend with a 9-0 run rule win in five innings on Saturday.
With the sweep Belhaven improved to 31-5 on the season and 23-4 in conference play as they continue their stretch of weekend series wins, now 20 in a row, dating back to March of the 2020 season. That stretch includes 19 straight American Southwest Conference series' won in that same time frame.
The Belhaven Softball team has continued to improve on an already impressive resume dominating conference play and posting an 8-3 record against teams ranked inside the NFCA Top 25 at the time of competition. This includes a 3-1 record over teams that were inside the Top 5 when the Blazers played them including two wins over ETBU (ranked #4 at the time) and a win over DePauw (ranked #1 at the time).Â
With regards to teams currently in the NFCA Top 25 the Blazers hold a 6-3 record including a 5-3 record over teams that are in the Top 10 of this week's NFCA poll. Belhaven is joined by two other ASC programs inside the Top 25 with East Texas Baptist ranked 8th and Mary Hardin-Baylor ranked 10th.Â
Belhaven will look to finish their regular season on a high note this weekend when they host UT Dallas for the final series of the regular season. The Blazers currently hold a 2.0 game lead over both ETBU and UMHB who both hold 21-6 records.
