LOUISVILLE, Ky. - The Belhaven Softball team was ranked 7th in the latest NFCA Coaches Poll released on Tuesday, dropping two spots from 5th despite a 3-1 week of action.
Belhaven knocked off Millsaps last Wednesday 7-2 as they complete the season sweep of the Majors before taking two of three in Longivew, Texas against LeTourneau University. Belhaven split Friday's doubleheader against the YellowJackets with a 10-0 win in the opener and a 2-0 loss in the night cap.
The Blazers then clinched the series on Saturday with a 4-0 win behind a 14 strikeout performance by
Kennedy Carruth. The series win extends the Belhaven streak of weekend series won to 18 straight going back to March of the 2020 season.
The Blazers still sit atop the ASC Standings this season with a 17-4 record in conference play and also maintain the best overall record in the ASC at 25-5 this year. Belhaven holds a 1.0 game lead in conference over #5 East Texas Baptist and also holds the head-to-head series between the two teams.
Belhaven Softball has continued to build an impressive resume this season consistently knocking off NFCA ranked teams this season. The Blazers are 8-3 against teams ranked inside the NFCA Top 25 at the time of competition including a 3-1 record over teams that were inside the Top 5 when the Blazers played them including two wins over ETBU (ranked #4 at the time) and a win over DePauw (ranked #1 at the time).Â
Despite changes in the rankings the Blazers also hold a 7-3 record over teams currently inside the NFCA Top 25 after MIT (beaten 11-2 on March 5th) joined the rankings this week.Â
The Blazers return to action on Thursday when they open up a conference series against Hardin-Simmons. The series opener on April 14th is set to start at 4 PM with a doubleheader set for Friday.
